Essay / An Essay on Drug Addiction - 1114
Drug addiction is a very big problem in today's society. Many people have had their lives ruined due to drug addiction. People who use drugs don't even realize they are addicted. They continue to use drugs without even realizing that their entire world is collapsing around them. Addicts usually lose family and friends to drug addiction. There are many addictions in the world, and drug addiction is the biggest. People may experiment with this medication for many reasons. “If your drug use is causing problems in your life, then you probably have a substance abuse or addiction problem.” (Lawrence Robinson p. 1) Many people begin using drugs through peer pressure or out of their own curiosity. Stress, anxiety, low self-esteem and depression could be other factors that prompt people to start using drugs. The medicine takes over your body and gives you a pleasant feeling that many people tend to enjoy. The urge to use the medication may continue to increase rapidly after the first use. The craving can become so intense that your mind can find many other ways to negate the addiction factor. Very few addicts can feel and realize that they have gone beyond the limits of drugs. An addict's mind may develop a very high tolerance for the drug and begin to give up activities they used to do on a daily basis, such as showering, hobbies, socializing, and even being associated with members of his family. The addicted person will continue to use the drug knowing that it harms their body, but they will have no remorse. An addict will often try to hide their problem so that they can continue using without anyone's intervention. Family and friends may try using preaching methods or telling the user that they need to stop using the drug. This method is not about getting involved in things they like to do to make them feel important or needed. Taking up a hobby or adopting a pet can be a good way to help them feel important and keep their minds clear. A drug-related relapse can be a healing process. An addict will find relapse very frustrating and hurtful, but ultimately it will help them understand the mistake they made the first time. In conclusion, drug addiction is a very terrible and difficult problem. It affects individuals, families and the people around them. It is important for addicts to realize that they must want to quit and seek help to resolve their problem. The addict needs the support of friends and family to be able to get through this process. The process of recovering from drug addiction can take a lifetime. There is hope for an addict who wants to change their life for the better.
