    IntroductionThe hippie era, the 1960s and 1970s, reinvigorated drug use, free love and sex. Many musical artists have become promoters of this message. The effects of the drug took their toll on many notable and accomplished artists of that era. My article will focus on three artists from this era; Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin. Were these musicians an artificial character of their time, or did other issues influence their choices and cause fatal drug addictions? Many popular musicians have died due to drug abuse; Why is drug abuse so common among musicians and are there ways to prevent it? Follow me as we take a closer look at this artist and why he abuses drugs. Jim MorrisonHis childhood: Morrison was born James Douglas Morrison. It was not until six months after Morrison's birth that his father was shipped out and served during the remaining years of World War II. During this time, his mother moved in with the admiral's parents in Clearwater, Florida. Jim never saw his father until he was two years old. Jim later had a sister and a brother. The most memorable events he experienced in life happened at the age of five. It is said that while on a family trip, Jim witnessed an accident while traveling in the desert.
