These are urbanization, the manufacturing industry, the agricultural economy and the informal economy. All of these numbers increased quite quickly after the fall of communism. Although industrial production in Romania decreased significantly at first, it later increased. Regarding urbanization, there are statistics showing the annual rates of change of the urban population in Romania from the period before World War I to the present. Before World War I, the annual rate of change in urban population was 1.4 percent, and the urban population represented 17 percent of the total population. And during the period 1941-1948, the urban population decreased. This was due to the war and famines of 1946 and 1947 as well as the political and economic unrest that followed the war. And during the period 1966-1977, the annual growth rate of the urban population increased to 3.12, influenced by the administrative reform of 1968.
