Essay / What makes a person become a serial killer? - 930
What drives a person to kill? What drives a living human being to take the life of another? This troubling question has tormented societies since the dawn of time. Poignant for all social strata, homicide is a mystery for the poor and the rich, the young and the old, women and men. Any type of person can be a killer, regardless of background, race, or gender, and that's what makes murder so confusing. the phenomenon challenges all nations, and almost every notion (from greed and lust to envy and anger) has been proposed as reasons why human beings destroy one another, but none None of them constitutes a solid explanation, the unique key that would solve the enigma. . The question remains: why do people kill? At any given time, it is estimated that there are between 50 and 75 serial killers active in the United States. Of these, approximately 7 to 8 are women, consistent with studies of murder in general, where women represent only a small percentage of those who kill (Hickey, 1997). Female serial killers make up only eight percent of American serial killers. but American women represent three-quarters of all female serial killers in the world (H. Thomas, 2004). Of a total of approximately 400 serial killers identified between 1800 and 1995, approximately 16 percent were women, making a total of 62 killers. While this figure does not constitute an overwhelming majority, it cannot be ignored either. These 62 women collectively killed between 400 and 600 victims, including men, women and children (Peter, 2007). Because this phenomenon has been ignored, many law enforcement agencies, as well as society as a whole, do not realize that women can and do commit acts of multiple murder. Because the police don't have the middle of paper... homicides. After all my research and reading, I have learned that although we evolve as law enforcement and with technology, we may never understand why. women kill, even though the most infamous killers are known as black widows, there are still a wide range of different types of killers. We may never be able to get into the minds of female serial killers like we do when it comes to male serial killers. Sometimes women kill as a crime of passion or because they have been abused all their lives. Some women just take it one day and have had enough or they are so far from reality that they don't know fake from real and kill and don't remember killing. There are also women who psychologically believe that they are saving their victims by constantly hurting them for attention, over and over again, until they finally kill them...
