We should treat communication the same way and handle it with care. Individuals stretch themselves, make errors in judgment, and communicate impulsively. “More than 55 percent of families have dual incomes; one in four people are headed by a single parent. The American workforce is multicultural, multilingual, and multi-everything! To manage this diversity, companies need flexibility. Professional life, more than anything else, offers that” (Business Journal, Web). Restricting employee access to email and intranet while on PTO will revitalize work-life balance, improve process efficiency and promote team cohesion. The conditions for this communication problem are related to resource capacity constraints and process improvement needs. Resource scarcity encourages employees to work longer at home after leaving the office. PTO balances accumulate because individuals do not schedule time off to take time off work. A sense of finesse and precision is necessary to communicate effectively. The burden of normal daily tasks at the workplace and personal affairs at home are heavy enough. This change in communication will help level the load and create a better work environment by limiting virtual access to work while employees are on PTO.
