Where I Work (Case #1)The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) was created to allow people to buy or sell stocks. It was launched in May 1792 under a button tree on Wall Street. Expanding the ideas and dreams of 24 men is why I have a job today. I'd like to share with you what's inside the NYSE from an employee's perspective. At the NYSE there is a division called Securities Industries Automation Corporation (SIAC), I am an online master trader. I am responsible for monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolving online issues related to the numerous host systems (other computers) that interact with the New York Stock Exchange. I work in the Switching and Order Processing section, whose sole purpose is to maintain zero (0) downtime for all equipment on the exchange. By this I mean making sure that all computers, printers, portable devices, hanging screens, etc. are working properly. are all connected to their appropriate ports and that they are operational and working properly. In addition to this, the department must keep track of all orders processed through the exchange and verify the integrity of the orders, in accordance with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The NYSE must also meet the operational requirements of the member company (companies that trade on the NYSE market). My company's organizational culture is defined by the rules and regulations of the Securities and Exchange Commission. Due to SEC constraints, it is difficult to change the culture. According to the 7 dimensions of organizational culture, I would evaluate my company as such:1. Innovation and risk taking – (note 1) Due to the constraints and standards set by the SEC, there is little room for this.2. Attention to Detail – (score 5) This is the platform on which the organization is structured.3. Result orientation – (score 5) the organization is “procedure oriented”, but a poor result could affect the entire investment community.4. Orientation of people – (note 2) Due to rules and compliances.5. Team Orientation – (score 5) This is a very important dimension of the organization. For a project to be successful, it needs the contribution of different resources.6. Aggressiveness – (score 3) As in most organizations, there is a need to move up the corporate ladder.7. Stability – (rating 5) Due to the ever-increasing demands of numerous customers. As an employee of the New York Stock Exchange for over 13 years, I have observed much of the organization's culture..
