  • Essay / Jack - Dynamic Character in "Lord of the Flies"

Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding, has four very important dynamic characters. A dynamic character is one who evolves and grows over the course of the story. Ralph, Jack, Piggy and Simon are four dynamic characters from Lord of the Flies who adapt to their new lifestyle in different ways. Jack is a very important dynamic character in Lord of the Flies because he undergoes the most changes throughout the novel. On the island, Jack experiences many life experiences that change him forever. Jack never thought he would live his life the way he does on the island. Jack tells the little ones who are afraid that they will forget the beast. ...... middle of paper ...... in hand, Jack tries to murder Ralph because Jack has become so wild. Jack's plan to kill Ralph is to set the entire island on fire. Unfortunately for Jack, Sam and Eric tell Ralph what's going to happen to him before it happens. Ralph escapes the fire unharmed. This is how Jack's violence shows that he is a dynamic character at the beginning of the novel. Jack's authoritarian figure, his wild/instinctive behavior and his violence are three qualities that make Jack a dynamic character. In Lord of the Flies, Jack is the most important dynamic character because he undergoes the most changes on the island. Again, a dynamic character is one that changes throughout the novel. Unlike Ralph and Piggy, the id emerges in Jack because he believes that everyone's desires are most important and should be followed, regardless of the situation...
