A justice-related issue that I consider relevant to our society today concerns women who suffer from domestic violence or battery. Battered Women's Syndrome (BWS) has recently been reformed in the United States as Battered Person's Syndrome (BPS) to include men as potential victims of domestic violence/beaters. The term battered person syndrome has been recognized as a social problem and legal changes have taken place in the United States to protect those affected by domestic violence/battery. My overall goal for this essay is to remind people of the historical origins of this social problem, the progress that our society has made in the legal system, and to suggest policy changes to improve legal protection for domestic violence/violence. battered women.
