The Red Scare: Communist Witch HuntsThe Red Scare is a term that describes the fear of a potential rise of communists felt by citizens of the United States in the 1990s 1920 and 1950. During the Red Scare, many people were questioned about whether or not they supported the idea of communism and some of them were unhappy. Those who were unlucky lost their jobs, friends and were also blacklisted from their previous jobs. It all started when the people of the Soviet Union overthrew their royal family in 1917 and killed them the following year. Shortly after, an anarchist believed to be a communist assassinated President McKinley (The Red Scare in 1920). These events will eventually create an uprising of fear and a feeling of suspicion among the American population. During the Age of Fear, many workers in the United States carried out various strikes and although it did not necessarily have to do with communism, it was seen as the main cause of the problem in the eyes of American conservatives. However, in 1919 a small radical group which believed itself to be a "Communist Labor Party" was formed (The Red Scare). Many Americans said at the time that the government needed to get rid of it to keep the country safe. However, there was one person who had a difference of opinion with society regarding communism and that man was Mitchell Palmer. He believed that these small parties would not cause great damage to the country and declared that "no Bolshevik revolution would take place in the United States." Then he started doing "Communist Witch Hunts" where he encouraged the Federal Bureau of Investigation to investigate middle of paper... the president. A few months after exposing Senator McCarthy and his true purpose of hunting to improve his political side, the Red Scare was over. In the end, people were afraid in vain. The things people were afraid of, like communists infiltrating the government and taking over the nation, never happened. People should have better judgment about a situation. Some people like McCarthy need to think of others and not themselves. They must make people's lives easier, not harder. Works Cited “The Red Scare of 1920” in Modern World History.
