    Melanie KleinMelanie Klein, a well-known psychoanalyst, was born in Vienna, Austria on March 30, 1882 and died on September 22, 1960. Melanie was born into a family that had many financial problems. Her father, whom she greatly admired, was raised in a very strict Orthodox Jewish family, but rebelled against becoming a rabbi to pursue a career in dentistry (Segal). At age 17, Mélanie attended school to study medicine, but soon dropped out. because she was engaged (Rosenfeld, 1968). Melanie married at the age of twenty-one, but experienced many problems with her husband from the start. They divorced in 1922 and each separated. Mélanie then realizes that her true happiness lies in her two children Melitta and Hans. Arriving in Budapest with her family, she discovered the work of Dr. Freud. After reading her book, she wishes to continue her studies as a psychoanalyst.
