Eldrick (Tiger) Woods was born on December 30, 1975, in Cypress, California, to Earl and Kultida Woods. He was the only child of this particular marriage, but had two half-brothers and a half-sister from his parents' previous marriages. The tiger is a combination of a few different ethnicities (Caucasian, Native American, Black, and Asian). He calls himself a “Cablinasian”. His father introduced him to golf at the age of 2, and from that young age, he was recognized as a golf prodigy. Tiger appeared on the Mike Douglas Show to show off his skills in 1978 and progressed in golf under his father's guidance. He won the 9-10 age group at age 8 in 1982 for the World Junior Golf Championships and has won this tournament a total of six times. He won many tournaments at a young age, some of which include the US Junior Amateur Championship and the US Amateur Championship. Even at this early stage of Tiger's career, it was evident that he would become a great golfing legend later in his life. In August 1996, Tiger became a professional golfer. In April 1997, he won his first major tournament, The Masters. This victory would be the first in a long series of successes for Woods. The same year, he won three PGA Tour events and rose to No. 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking. He was the fastest golfer to ever reach No. 1, in 42 weeks. This feat alone shows how incredibly gifted Tiger was and still is at the sport of golf. Other titles he won in 1997 included PGA Player of the Year and the youngest golfer to win the Masters. For a year and a half, Tiger didn't seem to be playing as well as he used to. So, he started working on his form and swing with his coach, Butch Ha...... middle of paper ......for introducing him to the sport and helping him along the way . But much of Tiger's expertise comes from determination and hard work, just like anything else. He would not be as good as he is today without his determination and passion for golf. For this reason, he is today the best golfer in the world and perhaps the best golfer anyone has ever seen.
