Police stress While crime coexists with humanity, the presence of police forces ensures the suppression of crime and the security of our society. Every profession has its own work stress. What is unique are all the different stresses encountered in the same job. In addition to the heroic services that police officers perform in the line of duty, they experience overwhelming stress in their daily work. Police stress refers to the negative pressures associated with police work (Police Stress, nd). In order to maintain peace and order, there must be an effective and operational police force. For this to happen, departments must be aware of and manage the negative effects caused by police stress. While police officers must overcome their stress in order to give their best, always maintain a positive attitude in their duty and have the ability to make the appropriate decision in every critical situation. Law enforcement is known to be much more stressful than police officers. at average work. Data shows that police officers ranked fifth on the list of most stressful jobs in 2010 (Strieber, 2010). From long hours of writing reports and documentation to engaging criminals in high-speed chases and shootings, police officers perform arduous tasks every day. In law enforcement, there are various sources of stress for police. While there are a number of factors that lead to police stress, we can look at three main ones to structure a tremendous understanding on this topic. By identifying these sources, law enforcement officers and agencies can work collaboratively to maintain a quality workforce and effectively address police stress issues.
