Clark LittleThe Beauty of the Waves Through the Eyes of Clark LittleTrenton Johnson - May 17, 2014 IntroductionImagine one day you decide to buy a camera with a waterproof case and you jump into a huge wave breaking on the shore just to take a photo. You didn't intend to become a photographer, but now you take photos of the inside of waves for a living. Well, that's Clark Little's life and that's how he got into it. He spends countless hours in the waves just to get the best shots to share with the world. It all started one day when he went to buy a waterproof camera, The Shorebreak Rider. In 1968, Clark Little was born in Napa, California. When he was two years old, his family moved to the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii. This move was the first step towards Clark's life in surfing. Clark's older brother, Brock Little, was always the star as one of the most famous big wave surfers, but in the 80s and 90s, Clark made a name for himself. One day, while sitting with the lifeguards at the Waimea Bay lifeguard tower, Clark told the lifeguard that he would be able to take the drop off the shore and shoot into the barrel. They said "No way!", so to prove them wrong, Clark paddled out and dropped into a monster wave. He fired the cannon like he said and, sure enough, it was wiped out. He didn't care about getting crushed because he knew that during the Shore Break almost every ride ended in a wipeout, he said it felt so good to drop and ride the wave for as long as he could. Once he knew the Shore Break was possible, it became his regular surf spot. He found sponsors who gave him surfboards, which was a good thing because he broke a lot of them and some photos of him ended up on the Internet. He had a lot of paper ......d with photographers. Little kids with GoPros! And they are good! So I started looking for new waves to photograph” is a quote from Clark’s new book, Shorebreak. And it's true, everyone does it now and some come away with very good shots. If it was for Clark Little, no one would do it. Not only does he inspire the world, but he inspires himself every day to keep taking those photos and have fun doing it. This is why Clark Little is best at taking pictures of the shoreline. “When everything is good, I won't come out of the water until my memory card fills up or my battery dies. I jump into the water at 7 a.m. and come out at 1 p.m., shriveled. My legs will buckle when I walk on the beach. Then I go home and look at the photos and I'm inspired again, can't wait to go back and do it the next day. This continues. It's an addiction. -Clark Little
