If this situation were to happen again, I would now be aware that every child is unique and is a competent learner from birth who can be confident, resilient, capable and self-assured. (DCSF, 2008). Through this experience, I learned to use my communication skills with children with speech or language delays. I have learned that I need to be more assertive so that I can deal with a situation where a child needs more support from me at the first meeting rather than thinking that I am not capable of it. This reflection has highlighted the need to increase my knowledge and understanding of practicing communication with children who have developmental delays and I will achieve this through more practice where I can learn.
