Essay / Popular Democracy Vs. Elite Democracy - 1346
The democratic process is an extremely messy mess in which special interests are often reduced to slogans and, in the end, no one leaves completely satisfied. It simply makes more sense for important policy decisions to be made by politically active and interested individuals. Americans don't value freedom, we often abuse it, and our government needs to take control. Americans are very gullible when it comes to politics and politicians love to take advantage of ordinary citizens. Politicians are notorious for saying all the right things during the election process, then turning out to be disappointing once in office. We are all familiar with the constant advertisements presented to us during elections that usually attack the opposing political party. Politics has always been a dirty process, but I think it keeps getting worse because of social media and lack of privacy. The rapid development of technology is radically changing the world and the way we live. Modern society is completely different from when our nation was founded in 1776. Most individuals have difficulty accepting change, but sometimes there is no other option. During the 2008 presidential election, Illinois Senator Barack Obama promised us change and personally, I don't believe he kept his promise.
