Essay / Mirror for Man - Understanding the definition of culture of culture. He explains that culture arises not only from "the way we are raised", but also from the past personal experiences and biological properties of the people involved. As human beings, we have learned to adapt to our personal environment and we have conditioned our lifestyles and ourselves to revolve around that environment in the most comfortable ways possible. As Kluckhohn describes it, the technical term culture has a broader meaning for the anthropologist than the technical term culture. “the humble pot” and “people of culture”. He suggests that the anthropologist must be concerned with all the involved biological aspects and conditions that have shaped a society. Humans can be easily understood simply by studying their environment, and as Kluckhohn stated, "they can also be easily predicted by knowing a people's outlook on life." Kluckhohn describes that as Americans, we strive to maintain our personal individuality and appearance; but yet, as Americans, or for that matter any nationality, we still basically follow the same patterns throughout the day. We have conditioned ourselves so much that our personal routines are done unconsciously. As a society, however, we reflect this given pattern, and when we compare it to another society, we are able to see how individual and unique cultures are from one another. It is this uniqueness that Kluckhohn is referring to; the American belief of plural wives in Siberia versus the single wife in America, the cultural training and manners of the Chinese, and the dietary manners of a wife in Arizona. Basically, all of these cultures live by the same laws of nature and are equipped with the same biological tools. Their uniqueness arises from the individual conditions their environment provides and the means by which they adapt to them. Having lived in London last year, for my first year, I am able to identify with Kluckhohn's views; as I have traveled to many places full of their own unique character and culture. In London I experienced the afternoon tea break and, although it does not conform to it, societies accept bathing only a few times a week. In Holland, I relied on cycling as my main mode of transportation for miles around and saw the old windmills and thatched roofs so typical of the country..
