It is a transformation of healthcare where the patient passively participates in their healthcare process in their best interest in order to experience a quality and healthy life according to their expectations. I appreciate the healthcare process as a team effort between patients and healthcare providers. The concept of patient engagement applies and provides me with a strong foundation for my beliefs and values ​​in my future practice as a cardiothoracic surgical nurse practitioner. I will use these attributes to establish a good relationship of trust and respect with surgical patients by ceding some power to patients through negotiation, sharing responsibilities and considering patients as equals. I will also share information and knowledge, provide education based on patient experiences, respect patients' opinions and expectations. The patient and the healthcare team will actively participate in intellectual and physical activities. Through this analysis, I am confident that the concept of patient engagement will guide my future practice and aligns with my healthcare beliefs and values. This brings benefits in the relationships between healthcare providers and the patient population.
