In this assignment, I will talk about the humanist perspective. I will briefly discuss in detail the humanistic theories of Carl Rodgers and Abraham Maslow which are PERSON-CENTERED THEORY and MASLOW'S THEORY OF SELF-ACTUALIZATION respectively. I will evaluate these two theories and finally I will apply Maslow's theory of self-actualization to my life.HUMANISMHumanism is a system of values and beliefs based on the idea that people are fundamentally good and that problems can be solved using reason rather than religion. (Merriam-Webster Dictionary Online, 2014). Humanistic theories were formulated in the 1950s due to discrimination against behavioral and psychodynamic theories. Carl Rogers coined a term called incongruence which is a discrepancy between self-concept and reality. What Carl Rogers means is that if a person, for example, claims to be good at math and gets higher scores on math tests, this shows that his self-concept is consistent with reality. Doing the opposite of who you say you are simply means that your self-concept is incongruous with...... middle of article...... APPLY MASLOW'S THEORY TO MY LIFE If I should apply the theory of Self by Abraham Maslow Looking back on my life, I would say that I have a strong relationship with my parents and a great friendship with my friends. Sometimes I struggle to do things that will make others appreciate who I am, so I just do them to feel appreciated. I always need to be with people, even in my busiest times I always want to be tied down and that doesn't give me any privacy. This really shows that I need self-realization. In conclusion, Abraham Maslow and Carl Rogers came with their own theories which are Maslow's theory of self-actualization and person-centered theory respectively, whose humanistic perspective they explained from their own point of view. These theories describe the needs that people should have and also know their personality structures..
