Urbanization results from people who live in rural areas being drawn to urban areas for work, leisure and education. However, urbanization creates the problem of noise pollution as a rapid increase in population generates more noise. Noise pollution is unwanted sound that irritates and disturbs people. There are four main categories: residential, industrial, road and leisure. In this essay, the physical and psychological impacts of noise pollution will be discussed. In addition, ways to solve these problems through the interaction of government and citizens will also be considered. First of all, noise pollution is currently a serious problem. This physically agitates humans and as a result, people become inefficient in their daily work. Noise pollution contributes to the problem of hearing loss, which leads to other problems such as discouragement, feelings of being neglected and feelings of isolation (Goines&Hagler 2007, pp.289). A study by Goines&Hagler (2007, pp.289) shows that it is dangerous to experience a sound level above 85 dB for more than eight hours. Goines&Hagler (2007, pp.289) states that "in 2001, an estimated 12.5% of American children aged 6 to 19 had hearing loss in one or both ears." Noise poses a dilemma for humans because it interferes with communication abilities. As a result, problems of misconceptions and irrelevant presentation arise (Goines & Hagler 2007, pp.290). In addition, noise also causes inconvenience to sleep, noises that frequently interrupt during the night are the noise from the environment and residents that accompanies the vibrations produced by vehicles (Goines & Hagler 2007, pp.290 ). Noise pollution has a significant influence on the entry and exit flows of an airport and imposes flight restrictions during the night. The Aviation Regulations and Air Traffic Control Regulations state that flights are prohibited from flying over a crowd area less than 1,500 feet above the tallest building. In conclusion, the noise is irritating and annoying. The adverse effects of noise pollution, such as hearing impairment, heart problems and sleep disorders, demonstrate the dire need to ban noise pollution. The best method of controlling noise pollution is the cooperation of the government and the people to reduce the noise level.
