    In Problems in African Imperial Histories, historians Gan and Duignan, Walter Rodney, and A. Adu Boahen discussed colonialism in Africa. Each historian explained a different view of the impact of the European empire on Africa. The views of Walter Rodney and A. Adu Boahen stood out the most. Colonial rule contributed to the exploitation of Africa and led to socio-economic development. Rodney expresses the negative impact on Africa. Boahen explains the negative and positive aspects of colonial rule. Walter Rodney believed that colonial rule contributed to the exploitation of Africa. “Indeed, what the colonialists called “the development of Africa” was a cynical and shorthand term for “the intensification of colonial exploitation in Africa to develop capitalist Europe” (Rodney, p. 295) . During colonial rule, the most significant negative impact on Africa was the loss of power. Power is the ultimate obstacle to the prosperity of a society.
