Walter Rodney believed that colonial rule contributed to the exploitation of Africa. “Indeed, what the colonialists called “the development of Africa” was a cynical and shorthand term for “the intensification of colonial exploitation in Africa to develop capitalist Europe” (Rodney, p. 295) .
