F. Ogburnin was the first to use the term cultural lag to explain social change. Ogburn classified culture into two categories: 1. Material culture and 2. Non-material culture. By material culture, Ogburnin means objects associated with a cultural group, such as clothing and food; any physical object to which we give social meaning. For example, a logo on a woman's handbag could indicate that she follows fashion (Kendall, 2005).
