Essay / Africa in turmoil and yet the United States does nothing
Imperialism is a policy aimed at expanding the power and influence of a country through diplomacy or military force. Imperialism occurs when a strong nation takes control of a weaker nation or region and dominates its economic, political, and cultural life. During the Industrial Revolution, global powers, primarily based in Europe, dominated many countries, including the Scramble for Africa. The Scramble for Africa took place in the 1800s, when European nations created colonial borders in Africa. The Scramble of Africa situation caused many problems due to the grouping of tribes under one leader, the "white man's burden", and dependent economies. These problems have led to a history of mass genocides, revolutions, war violence and political conflict. As world powers, we are the cause of these problems because of imperialism, and it is our right to solve the problems now. In 2011, a political explosion led to armed conflict in the North African country of Libya over oppressive leader Muammar Gaddafi. Fiery protests and rebellion clashed with national security, contributing to what is known as the Libyan Civil War. The result led to violent civil war and destruction, 25,000 casualties and the overthrow of the government. Although the latter solution looks like a victory for Libya, disputes still persist today due to power vacuums. A power vacuum is an analogy between a physical vacuum and the political situation "when someone has lost control of something and no one has replaced them." This situation can occur when a government has no identifiable central power or authority, and Libya is not the only nation suffering from a power vacuum. Many North African countries face the same complication. .... middle of article ...... about Africa in turmoil and yet we do nothing to solve the problems.
