The financial crisis of 2008 and 2009 is considered by others to be the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression of 1930. However, other financial crises occurred after the Great Depression and were equally disastrous. The one that comes to mind is the financial crisis of the 80s and early 90s. It is always overlooked by others due to the 2008 credit crisis, which happens to be the most recent. It became known as the Savings and Loan Crisis, which essentially provided a substantial state-funded bailout of an industry that had collapsed and was on its knees begging for help. The savings and loan crisis is smaller in scale compared to the banking crisis of the 1920s and 1930s. This crisis strained state and federal deposit regulation and insurance systems, which which ultimately led to profound changes in the regulatory environment.
