Essay / Single Mom Essay: Being the Child of a Single Parent sometimes and hoped that the next one day you could be by your mother's side because she was trying to make sure I took care of myself. But all I cared about was that she was home. This quote was said by LeBron James. He knows, like others, what it feels like to be the child of a single parent. It's hard being the child of a single parent, especially a single father. Being the child of a single father means that as a daughter, they have to do all the cleaning and most of the cooking. It prepares them for the real world and proves to people that they can take care of themselves as well as others. There are many single parents, however, some single parents should think twice before becoming single parents. If a divorce has resulted in single parenting, there's really nothing that can be done, but if a single person wants a baby, they should think twice before having a baby or adopting. People of all kinds should be able to make the decision to become a single parent; However, before becoming a single parent, they should be aware of the difficulties, stress and financial needs of raising and supporting a child alone. "With low income, single parents cannot afford to take sick leave from work, they cannot afford to pay for child care nor can they rest or fall asleep if their child is not sleeping” (Sherine, 2). “Unlike low-income women, middle-class women have careers and college to look forward to, so they delay having children” (Anderson, 5). “Unfortunately, one study showed that babies are more likely to grow up and live in poverty if they are born to a poor single mother” (McClatchy, 2). “Everyone is in the middle of paper…applying for government assistance if they need it, receiving child support, and having support from friends and family.” And finally, if someone chooses to be a single parent, they should do their best to raise the child, seek government assistance only when necessary, and, again, have support from others. More people need to reach out and make a difference regarding single parenting. For example, government assistance to single fathers should be equal to the assistance given to single mothers. But enough about that. Single parents always do their best and try to do their best to raise their children. Parents should be able to have the choice to be single parents, but before doing so, they should be aware of all the difficulties that come with being a single parent. They need to be aware of the stress and financial needs of raising and supporting a child alone..
