Health System AnalysisThe Gallic Rooster versus the Bald EagleWhen talking about healthcare systems, there are a few factors that we should consider essential in defining health. 'experience ; Personal remuneration, choice of doctor and freedom of practice The American and French health systems share to a certain extent some fundamental principles such as giving patients the freedom to choose their doctor, and although the expenses are different, the two systems have a plan where employers and employees pay for the cost. But from a different perspective, these two systems are radically and fundamentally different from each other, the French being a non-profit, multi-payer system and the American, a corporate health sector . French workers and their employers pay for most of their medical care through premiums allocated on the basis of gross wages, with employers contributing 13% and workers 7%. Hospitals and medical practices are private entities that can be for-profit or nonprofit, with the nonprofit side having regulated health funds to collect payments under a negotiated fee structure. 75% of these payments come from compulsory social contributions from employers and employees and the remaining 25% come from patients, the State and supplementary insurance. This option leaves the country with 99% coverage, ranking first by WHO standards. A simple comparison with the U.S. system is difficult given the multitude of insurance plans with varying premiums and the wide range of coverage depending on company size and other factors.
