Restless Legs Syndrome is a neurological disorder that affects the limbs of the body by creating a tingling, itching, crawling, and other unpleasant sensation in the arms or the legs. (“Restless Legs Syndrome”) These sensations make it difficult to fall asleep because they create a desire to move to make the unpleasant feeling go away. It usually affects the legs more than the arms, hence the name "restless legs syndrome." (“Restless Legs Syndrome”) “The National Sleep Foundation has identified restless legs syndrome as a leading cause of insomnia” (Rosen). Very few doctors are aware of restless legs syndrome; it therefore remains undiagnosed. by this disorder, but only two to three percent receive treatment for this disorder. The approximate number of people diagnosed with Restless Legs Syndrome is seventy million (“Sleep Disorder).
