  • Essay / Representation of women in advertising essay - 1243

In her article Women in modern print advertisements, Lleana Ioan writes: “Slogans like The best business card for a man is a beautiful woman, or My husband Said I was the nice part. of her career show that women in advertising are mostly treated as subordinate dolls: sexy, flat, and with an emphasis on the body” (45). These slogans often follow corresponding images of women. The women are dressed in little or no clothing, representing sexual symbols. Women are seen as objects meant to please others. This leads to a negative attitude towards women, as they begin to feel inferior to what they are. Even though these slogans are only intended to increase sales, they encourage women to believe that this is the way they should do it.
