Most managers receive bonuses if they are able to increase net profit. It would be very difficult to turn down the opportunity to earn more money for yourself and your business. The question to ask is: is this ethical? Will anyone be hurt or lose their job because of my decision? There are varying degrees of bad business ethics. ENRON stole money from all of its employees and investors. This changed the way the stock market works today. Is cheating on your scorecard or not helping an overwhelmed customer a guarantee? Whether ethical decisions, big or small, are very important in business, it's about finding how to handle them. Good decisions lead to a good reputation and that's how you gain loyal customers. If a company behaves poorly ethically, the law should punish it. With fines or closure of the
