Age-appropriate television shows greatly influence the stigma attached to how boys and girls should be. Many television shows present young girls with the wrong idea about brains and beauty. Usually the girl is attractive, she's not that smart, and if she's not attractive, she's smart. In these TV shows, teenage girls mainly focus on boys, shopping and their appearance. School rarely seemed important to them through these shows. Music videos are also a way in which media influences genre. Usually, television channels such as MTV and Vh1 primarily target male audiences. Sometimes these networks can present women as solely sexual beings, and women as inferior to men. Without parental control, children watch a lot of things on television that they may not understand, but which in some way nevertheless affect their gender development.
