Essay / GMO - 1401
The human population increases significantly after World War II. Today, the world population exceeds seven billion; and, according to Azasi and Ho (2010), the world population will double in 2050. Due to this rapid increase in population, we are now facing a very serious problem: that of food security. This problem affects every country in the world, and mainly affects developing countries, because their agricultural system cannot produce enough food. On the other hand, developed countries are more concerned about the safety and taste of their food. In their research paper, Azasi and Ho (2010) presented two alternative solutions to solve the food security problem: they also define the advantage and disadvantage of the two solutions. The first solution lies in genetically modified crops (GM crops). The production yield of GM crops is very high, and it is cheaper because GM crops are very resistant to pests and weeds. However, genetically modified crops can affect the environment and cause serious harm to humans and other living beings; and not all developed and developing countries accept GM technology. Additionally, a country must reach a certain level of technology and wealth to implement GMOs. The second solution is the organic farming style. This solution aims more to increase food safety and taste than to increase food production yield. In addition, this style requires a lot of work and time, and its cost is very high. For most developed countries, this style of agriculture is considered the best solution to ensure food security, because their culture, soils, pests and weeds, and weather conditions are suitable for the implementation of a style of organic farming. Furthermore, we can see that many countries are against it. GMO. But why do they reject... middle of paper... the age of the future. Overall, OF is a style of agriculture that is good for environmental improvement. Organic foods will reduce health risks; the profit will increase because the demand for organic food is very high. However, organic farming is not the best solution to ensure food security in large developing countries like China, India, Vietnam and others. GMOs therefore represent the best solution to increase the food supply in large developing countries or in overpopulated countries. However, new problems appear. How to get farmers to adopt GMO technology? How can we reduce the impact of GMOs on the surrounding ecosystem and on humans? How can we reduce the change in GMO crops by modifying their consumption genes? This is what worries the world. But, by our own understanding, more than half of our national food supplies are or are made from genetically modified crops, or are linked in part to genetically modified crops..
