  • Essay / Crowns from a Feminist Perspective - 778

A young child grows up seeing many things and remembering many memories. But the most important things a person can remember are the memories of home. In families there are things called traditions and in most cases families pass their traditions down from generation to generation. Traditions are what separate many families from each other and, in some cases, bring them together. The play Crowns shows us how an institution can bring together not only black people to praise their lord, but also the traditions that accompany many years of holy celebration. As we watch Crowns, we listen to the many different stories that all the ladies in the room tell. say. As we listen to the stories, we notice how each lady spoke about the memories of her childhood, the life lessons learned, the good and bad times of her youth. They have long spoken about Africa and the events surrounding slavery that play a role in why they gather in churches today. Slaves could not form and gather, but the only place they could gather was the church. The Church was a perspective for slaves and a social status for blacks of later generations. Black people use the Church as a place to show off their creativity and the beautiful clothes they wore. Themes are subjects, subjects of discourse or artistic representation. Crowns shows us many feminist themes; I think the most important and interesting theme represented by the characters is image. Women give the image of being delicate and in church, women should be completely covered from head to toe. The ladies discuss the essential quote from this piece: "When presenting yourself before God...for you to be at your best, you must present excellence before the Almighty." ยป The theme image is related to the pr...... middle of paper ......perhaps sexist and perhaps even controversial; for example, the character Jeanette, a male writer, may explain how much she flirts with her hats. Feminism is a theory of political, economic and social equality of the sexes or organized activity in the name of the rights and interests of women. My view on feminism is that I'm happy that women can have something to represent us as a whole. For years we have been separated by class, gender and religion, but when one person introduces the word, it sounds like an all-women's ball. I think I'm a feminist, because all my life I've stood for women's rights and equal justice for my gender. I think being able to stand up and be a feminist is an incredible thing, because having the courage to stand up and fight for the rights of a group of people takes a lot of work and courage, especially if you have no support from others..
