Throughout her tenure, she made many efforts to improve the state of her country. One of his first measures was to release political prisoners unjustly detained by Marcos. She then held elections to replace those in power who were still sympathetic to Marcos in order to create a congress more chosen by the citizens. Media offices that were used for Marcos propaganda were also removed and press freedom was restored. The government under President Aquino then established the Office of the Peace Commissioner (OPC) to manage internal conflicts through peaceful methods (The Aquino Management, "1992). During the first year of the president's term Aquino, the government succeeded in reducing its debt which had been accumulated by Marcos to the tune of $4 billion ("Manila Plan", 1992). Canada, Japan, Europe and Asia-Pacific neighbors have also strengthened their presence in India, Vietnam and Myanmar and concluded trade agreements with Indonesia and Singapore (“The Aquino Management).,"
