Salinger was madly in love with Oona and wrote her many letters as often as he could. But he learns from a newspaper sent abroad that she is interested in the very famous actor and director Charlie Chaplin, whom she will later marry. Likewise, Holden was obviously in love with Jane Gallagher, just as Salinger was in love with Oona. After years of no contact with her, Holden learns that Stradlater, a handsome and popular boy who rooms with Holden at Pencey, is going on a date with Jane. Salinger's angry reaction to discovering Oona's new lover is mirrored in Holden's angry actions towards Stradlater and Jane. Salinger shows his anger through his writings while Holden shows his anger by fighting with Stradlater, which leaves him a bloody.
