Essay / Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening By Robert Frost...
Just like the speaker in “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening” who has “promises to keep » (Frost 245), the speaker of “After Apple -The picking” is obligatory to complete “the great harvest” (Frost 240). Additionally, the metaphors in both poems share similarities. While the metaphor of “Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening” indicates that humans are unique because of our ability to stop and reflect on the beauty of nature, in “After the Gathering apples,” the speaker reflects on his life and calculates all the missed opportunities. the “two or three apples that I haven’t picked” and the desire to free oneself from one’s work, from one’s life, to achieve a “long sleep” (Frost 240). Both metaphors are an example of the human experience, as only humans can stop to observe nature, while working for a harvest is a very human activity.
