Essay / Competition in the job market - 722
The world is becoming more and more competitive, with new technologies making the Earth appear to be shrinking. Of course, this is not literally but figuratively. Information can be shared faster and at a fraction of the cost before. Therefore, this new technology has flattened the world. Thomas L. Friedman said that "every young American today would be wise to consider himself in competition with all the young Chinese, Indians, and Brazilians." Globalization makes it easier for people to connect and share ideas. It also makes it easier for people to get to work and communicate with colleagues who may be hundreds of miles away. Globalization brings the world closer together. When competing for a job, you can compete with an Indian or a Brazilian and whoever has the most education will get the job. Moreover, it is no longer a question of local competition, but now of global competition, whether it is a question of outsourcing jobs or moving employees. Friedman stated that “…data entry by securities analysts for certain forms of accounting and radiology that were once considered non-negotiable are now negotiable.” More and more jobs can easily be outsourced to a Chinese, an Indian or a Brazilian who is more qualified than an American. Additionally, the risk of offshoring increases, as does the level of education needed to obtain the desired job. There are three broad categories of jobs that will not be exported, as Friedman describes. “The first concerns specialized people, celebrities and those with special skills like surgeons. Next come local jobs that require face-to-face and on-the-job activity. For example plumbers, dentists and teachers. Finally, the third category is the largest part...... middle of paper...... he said he already had a job lined up and was waiting for it if he met all the requirements once his secondary education is completed. . What he is doing now. He masters the six survival skills and ensures that he cannot go abroad by becoming a very valuable worker in today's society. The demand for valuable workers is increasing and globalization makes it easier to find the right people to do the job, even if they are not in the same country as the employer.
