Essay / Claude Debussy: a musical genius - 967
Claude Debussy is one of my favorite composers of all time. The music of Claude Debussy had the ability to change the way I perceived music and made me better appreciate all types of music. Having grown up playing the piano all my life, it was always difficult for me as a child to follow all the "rules" by which traditional classical music was performed. The sheet music seemed so dull and boring to me because I was playing the piece but some parts just didn't sound appealing to my ear. My instructor always looked down on me for this because it was different from what everyone else was doing at the time. I recognized that Debussy's style of music was also criticized in the same way that mine was one day while listening to my favorite piece Clair De Lune. The song in my mind is just perfect, the harmonies all flow beautifully but according to others it is not what they want to hear as it is considered vague and lacking in image. My struggle to limit myself to these so-called piano rules made me love Debussy more and more. Claude Debussy is a French classical music composer. Debussy was born in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, France, in 1862. Debussy's music was considered to fall under the study of Impressionism because he moved away from traditional musical composition methods of tone and pitch and worried about the different intervals of a room. Debussy began playing the piano at the age of seven. At ten years old, it was evident that Debussy was very good at what he did as he was selected to attend a prestigious school for talented musicians, dancers and artists. Debussy remained at the Conservatory for eleven years where he honed his talents with the help of some famous composers such as I...... middle of paper ...... I believe Claude Debussy played a decisive role into what classical music is today and should remain greatly respected around the world for the things he accomplished. Claude Debussy will forever be one of my favorite classical composers because I can understand the criticism one must endure if one wants to do things differently with a piece of classical music, I know this because I play piano at the ear and I add my flair. to a song. I respect the fact that Debussy stayed true to what he believed in and did things in a way that was not necessarily strange, but different. After all, who can say what is or isn't art?
