    As society reorganizes itself and advances to keep up with the ever-changing dynamics of its citizens, social movements provide an available outlet to bring about changes within the law. Social movement is a broad term and can often have specific goals and targets in mind when attempting to mobilize the right. “Social movements are collective actors or groups that seek a common goal or express a common identity; targets may include states, society, businesses and/or social norms and values. They can be conservative or progressive” (Hilson, 2002). We must accept that social movements do not always seek an objective but express an identity. Social movements formulate demands in relation to the law or based on the law. Social movements deliberately and proactively initiate legal action when they file an action with a number of different goals in mind. An example of legal mobilization through a social movement would be the affirmation of women's rights regarding abortion. Women have the right to choose whether or not they want to reproduce and through the use of social movements we have seen the laws gradually change. or to express their identity” (Hilson, 2002). Women mobilized their rights using the language of law to assert that their rights were being violated. Legal mobilization can be described and interpreted in different ways depending on the situation and how the law is trying to be changed. Critical legal studies and legal realism establish that when a certain law exists and it is ineffective, it must be mobilized to encourage change.
