Essay / When I think killing someone is justifiable - 1507
“We all know the civilized way of taking revenge: you don't. You rise above. Francis Bacon saw it almost 400 years ago,” said Susie Boyt (Boyt 2014). This is not always the case and there are individuals in the world like me who think differently. There are three types of revenge crimes. There are childish and stupid forms of revenge, like telling a friend off to a teacher. Another is a crime of passion, a murder when the emotional stress becomes too much and a person breaks down. Finally, it is a justifiable crime, such as when a person's actions are reasonable and they are not facing any charges within the justice system. I believe there are circumstances in the world where it is justifiable to murder a person because of their actions. In the short story “Killings” by André Dubus, revenge, loss, and consequences are explored. Richard Strout, a man of little or no moral character, committed a crime of passion, which I do not believe to be a justifiable crime, since he murdered a man who was in a relationship with his estranged wife. Strout is an impatient and violent man with no boundaries. This is evident since he killed Frank in front of his children and ex-wife. Many people try to forget the events that shaped them into the people they are. Without a doubt, Frank's murder and Strout's murder form the character traits of both Richard Strout and Matt. Multiple things happen time and time again with acts such as those committed in Killings. There is no feeling of guilt or remorse on Richard's part after the murder. He seemed to feel completely justified in Frank's murder and even made the statement: "He was doing it with...... middle of paper... where someone intentionally hurts someone you care deeply about is a reason why I believe murder is justifiable.
