Essay / Armenian Americans - 1980
Armenian AmericansIntroductionThe United States is made up of a multitude of different ethnic backgrounds and cultures. We have always been nicknamed "the land of the free," which has helped make the United States more attractive to those who have had to seek refuge far from their home countries during war and other hostile situations. Unfortunately, those who have had to seek refuge here have not always been welcomed with open arms. As a nation, and I hate to admit this, we are just racist. In the 1600s, we used African Americans as slaves to do our dirty work. We did not allow them to own anything or even learn to read or write. They had no rights as human beings. We have degraded them and made them into nothing. Obviously now that has changed. Native Americans were taken from their land and murdered for no reason. During World War II, when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, we were angry at Japanese Americans and if they were captured in the United States, they would be kept as prisoners. Just because they were Japanese, they held the people of their home country responsible for the actions. Currently, the war on terrorism has caused outrage among Americans who are natives or descendants of those from the Middle East, such as Pakistanis, Iraqis, etc. How is it fair for us to claim that we are the "Land of the Free" when we feel so much anger towards those who have a different skin color or come from a different ethnic background? My article is not about racism or hatred. I'm going to write about a minority group that so few people actually know about. I believe that education and awareness can help the United States become more aware of different cultures middle of paper...... current ethnicity you want to be aware of it because you really do I don't want to don't offend them because you just don't know. Conclusion In conclusion, it is always a good idea to know about different cultures to avoid disrespecting others. We are known as a diverse country and we honestly need to start acting like we are. It is no longer a black or white country. We are made up of different races, genders, ages, sexes, religious preferences, etc. We are diverse.REFERENCESArmenian traditions.
