In 2013, Peter Berg directed a film version of the novel Lone Survivor by Marcus Luttrell. The book and film are set in Afghanistan and tell the story of Operation Redwing. In both versions, four Navy SEALs head to northern Afghanistan toward Pakistan's mountainous border to capture or kill a notorious al-Qaeda leader. Throughout the film version of Lone Survivor, what happens to Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell is very similar to what happens to him in the novel. However, the film is different from the book because it leaves out some details, is told primarily through dialogue rather than narration, and ends in a different way. The Lone Survivor novel contains a lot more detail, unlike the film. For example, in the novel, Petty Officer Danny Dietz is not a member of Marcus' team, but is substituted at the last second to replace Petty Officer Shane Patton. On the other hand, Danny Dietz is part of Marcus' team in the film version.
