“If we endure all this suffering and there are still Jews left, when it is all over, then the Jews, instead of being condemned, will be cited as an example,” said Anne Frank ("Anne Frank quote.") The Holocaust was one of the most tragic and revealing events in history. The period from January 30, 1933 to May 8, 1945 was a great struggle for Jews, Germans and everyone. The Holocaust was one of the most significant events in history as millions of people died. It became an important part of our school curriculum and there are still survivors today who speak about the events and experiences that occurred during this time. First, Adolf Hitler led the great event known as the Holocaust. He was leader of the Nazi Party, chancellor of Germany from 1933 to 1945 and dictator from 1934 to 1945. Hitler had a difficult life. During his childhood, he and his father did not get along and his brother died at a very young age. Hitler was very interested in politics even though he was isolated from everyone. He wasn't a naughty child. He went to church every Sunday and sang in the choir. He grew up like any other child. Although unlike other children, Hitler was furious with anyone who disagreed with him. On January 20, 1933, he took power and created an army although this was against German law. This army was created to capture those he chose and send them to concentration camps where they would either be put to work or killed. His army would capture Jews, Poles, communists, homosexuals, Jehovah's Witnesses and trade unionists. It killed about two-thirds of Europe's Jewish population. Hitler did not visit the concentration camps he formed and never spoke about the killings. Hitler was afraid of being taken over by enemy troops ... middle of paper ... As she grew older, she began to understand the morals of the people and why they did what they did. She admitted that she had blocked certain experiences out of her mind. What I liked most about what she said was that we all need to forgive. She said she forgave the doctors for experimenting on her, she forgave Hitler for killing all the Jews, and she forgave everyone. “Anger is a seed for war. Forgiveness is a seed for peace! said Eva Kor (“CANDLES”). The Holocaust is and has been very influential in history. It challenged their view of others and life. It was a daily struggle for those in the concentration camps and those in hiding. It was a time when you had no choice, because if you didn't do something, you could be killed. The Holocaust changed more than the past, but the present and the future.
