    These characteristics affect the way women act, look, and live. Advertising influences both sexes by how they believe they should act and live a certain way. Gender stereotyping remains a major problem in the advertising industry. “All stereotypes have an impact on people’s lives. Behaviors that you know and believe are correct for your gender influences, your daily life, and almost every activity you do. (Hanan 79) For example, some men are afraid of being a stay-at-home dad and some women feel like they can't be a doctor because advertisements don't usually portray them in that profession. “Gender roles influence your life more than you think. How you are treated at school, at work, or by authorities is directly related to your gender” (Cheney 31). In life, women can be treated poorly because they are portrayed as weak, unlike men who are portrayed as strong and courageous. Advertising doesn't do a good job of showing that these depictions of men and women aren't always true. “In fact, it’s been proven that ads have more of an effect on your view of gender.
