I have always found the ocean to be a very intriguing part of the Earth. There remains an infinite number of discoveries to be made about it. My fascination with the ocean gave me the idea to write my class assignment on hurricanes and what they are and their effects. I remember hearing about all the damage Hurricane Katrina caused after it hit the coast near New Orleans. The only information I really know about them is what is briefly covered in the news. I thought it would be interesting to discover the true effects they can have not only on the people who experience them, but also on the environment, as it is torn to shreds by the plethora of winds and d 'water. What I Know Most of my knowledge about hurricanes comes from Hurricane Katrina and the devastation I saw depicted on the news. My other source is from a family friend who lives in Florida and has had to endure a hurricane or two. Hurricanes are extraordinary in their ability to inflict pain, poverty, dirt and disease on communities. They are a great way to spread pollution with all the debris. With all the homes, vehicles, and other massive objects that hurricanes destroy, it's easy to destroy them and then throw them miles away. Hurricanes not only transport man-made materials from here to there, but they also bring plants or animals from the ocean to the continent. Flooded streets could become the new refuge for venomous snakes, fish or dangerous sharks. There are endless possibilities of being bitten, drowning or not being discovered. Hurricanes are brutal and violent natural disasters to endure and can be deadly in many cases. What I want to find out I would like to find out more in-depth information about the effects hurricanes have on society. I want to know how they affect people...... middle of paper ...... and after'.
