Stevenson was a fragile person who often fell seriously ill, but who became an excellent writer. Stevenson was eventually forced to leave his home country (London, England) for California. He almost died on the way. But when he realized it, he created the famous short story in 1886. This short story is called “The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde”. The short story itself was written in four days, proving Stevenson's extreme talent as a writer. Inside the short story, it contained immense detail and rich diction that brought life and meaning to the story. The story contains many interpretations and meanings throughout the short story, which raises the question of the true meaning of the story. Some worry about the religious aspect of sin and temptation that caused Dr. Jekyll to permanently transform into Mr. Hyde. Others are interested in the physiological aspects of Dr. Jekyll's decisions and thought process that led him to want to remain Mr. Hyde. In "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde", Stevenson uses Dr. Jekyll as a representation of man falling into temptation, and Mr. Hyde as one who remains in sin. Why people chose evil has been a conceptual question for thousands of years from many different perspectives. From a religious perspective, people believe that the underlying cause of evil is sin and temptation. Half the time, humans can choose right over wrong in situations based on the legal system and moral standards of society.
