Essay / Hypotheses, independent and identified variables of...
Over the years, whenever a psychologist undertakes an experiment, his goal is to discover and experiment what are the hypotheses, independent and dependent variables of the experience. Throughout this essay, I will explain what each of these terms means, examine an experiment, and outline what the hypothesis, independent, and dependent variables are. The Oxford Dictionary definition states that the meaning of the word “hypothesis” is “A supposition or proposed explanation made on the basis of limited evidence as a starting point for further investigation.” Simply put, it's a possible theory. It is something that cannot be explained and cannot be classified as a theory because it has not yet been tested or experimented with. From this possible theory, psychologists begin their experiments on whatever they are studying and are able to test to find out what the variables in the experiment are. There are different types of hypotheses, for example a working hypothesis which is the start of further research, in other words, it is a work in progress. Psychologists have moved beyond the initial stage and can now experiment further at higher levels. However, there is a difference between a hypothesis and a theory. A hypothesis is in place so psychologists can ask questions, make guesses, and experiment with different variables. Now, a theory is the explanation of an experience. You can state an experiment as a theory once you have an answer and you can no longer experiment. However, a hypothesis cannot work without its independent and dependent variables. They are both part of an experiment that is there to be measured and experienced. Many variables exist, for...... middle of paper ...... his experience, the color red was a good thing, but in other situations, the color red is considered the color of l 'warning. Overall, the dependent variable for this specific experiment would be the same constant woman in all photos presented. The independent variables were the color changes of the woman's top and the photo frames, but also, they experimented with the woman in the same experiment. After looking at not only this study, but also studies done years ago, it showed that every experiment requires a hypothesis along with its independent and dependent variables. They play a crucial role in experiments. They help control, measure and keep the experience organized and structured. Without this, in my opinion, psychologists would not be able to effectively record their results, experiences or achievements...
