Unlike other novels, John Steinbeck wrote his novel in a unique way. What made his novel unique was the presence of two different types of chapters. His novel The Grapes of Wrath has two different types of chapters, intercalary and narrative. The two chapters are presented first as a pair and as an intercalary chapter, followed by narrative chapters. Both types of chapters present the same idea. Since they come as a pair, both chapters present the same exempted idea in a different way reinforcing that idea. Intercalary chapters normally precede narrative chapters. These chapters are shorter than their counterparts the narrative chapters. The intervening chapters present ideas or statements and give brief context and history of what is happening. These chapters interrupt the narrative chapters to add information important to the author, but they won't get that information from the story. The intervening chapters provide this information through hypothetical characters. These characters help show the claim made in this chapter. For example in chapter 7....
