    A) Synopsis: Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher begins when Clay Jensen receives seven audio cassettes recorded by Hannah Baker, a girl from his town who recently committed suicide. According to Hannah, every person on her tapes is a reason for her suicide. Clay is on the tapes, but he doesn't see why. He must listen to understand. When Clay finally gets to his tape, it is revealed that he was not actually blamed for his suicide. Clay realizes that even though he didn't do anything wrong to Hannah, he let the rumors get in the way of their budding relationship. Clay could have made a positive difference in Hannah's life and hopefully prevented her suicide. Clay's possible role in Hannah's is difficult for Clay to understand. He knows Hannah did this to herself, but he's angry because he didn't do anything to stop her. Clay, who is normally calm, becomes so angry; he hits a fence and cuts his hand. Clay, after staying up all night listening to the tapes, goes to school the next day, realizing he can't hide the rest of his life and reaches out to another girl, Skye Miller. He does this in hopes of saving her from the same fate as Hannah. B) Three characters 1) Hannah Baker • Hannah is the girl who committed suicide. She is the person the whole story is based on and is the girl who speaks through the tapes. The story is told from his point of view. • Hannah is manipulative. She put a lot of effort into recording the tapes and handing out maps of the places she had been just to get people to do what she wanted them to do. She also threatens to release the tapes if listeners don't pass them on or do what she says. • Hannah's relationship with the other characters was bad because they influenced her life in a negative way. She was happy until she was voted into a middle of paper...new, might help you do that” (14.84). The style is confusing with short sentences but that's what makes the story interesting. You read Clay's thoughts, so they shouldn't be perfect. When we think it doesn't always make sense, as Jay Asher explains Clay's thoughts and what Hannah is saying, it makes the story that much more interesting. (page 24) This is an example of one of the few places Hannah could go to calm down or relax. She felt calm while playing in a rocket in a park where little children were playing; comfortable and safe She thought it was safe because little children don't have worries; she wanted to stop worrying and become a little child again;.
