Essay / The Vaccine War - 942
After watching The Vaccine War, the main concerns about vaccines are public safety, the consequences of injecting harmful chemicals into the body, and parents who choose not to not vaccinate their children. Early in the documentary, one mother, Jennifer Margulis, says she thought it was unnecessary for her newborn to be vaccinated against a sexually transmitted disease. She feels like the ingredients are scary for a young child with an immature immune system. The other problem is a massive outbreak that could have been avoided. The Center of Disease Control is closely monitoring the town where Ms. Margulis lives, Ashland, Oregon, because it is the least vaccinated place in America due to parents' refusal to get vaccinated. This becomes a social problem because if a child is not vaccinated and comes into contact with someone with a contagious disease, it will spread to other unvaccinated children. This will lead it to become an epidemic. The cause of this social problem is the times we live in, we live in a time where we can find anything, about anyone, with the touch of a finger. The internet has led us to look for other options compared to the generation before us. Media content about vaccines is very important. There is always someone who will support your opinions – even on the other side of the world. The social problem is not solved because people will always have a different method of thinking than others. Having our own opinions is ingrained in us. What would you do if you came to talk to another parent who doesn't believe in vaccinations? Would you warn them of the harm they are doing to their children? What about the harm caused to your society? Even if your child is vaccinated, might you... middle of paper ...... not be aware of a problem of unvaccinated children in the mix, leading people to believe that Vaccines can cause autism. If this could change my mind about vaccines, it’s possible that other people might have been hesitant as well. Cognitive dissonance would be the most likely theory to explain what happened a few years ago. these parents choose for their family. They want to be heard; they do not feel comfortable with vaccines given to babies and feel that it will lead to illnesses in the future. Although doctors and scientists tell them that it will increase the risk of contracting something in children in the near future. The social problem will not disappear. They will always be someone who has a problem until vaccines become safer, for non-believers. Bibliography (Campell, 2013) (Shane Ellison, 2012)
