Unlike others, he views humanity as greater and sees him for who he is rather than as a black man and/or a murderer. Given this, Bigger is open to Max and tells his side of the story for the first time. Additionally, through Max's understanding, Bigger sees that it is indeed possible for a black and white man to have a sympathetic relationship. The main points of Max's trial were to plead guilty and explain to the court why Bigger did what he did. Buckley continued to make calls to find out how Max was pleading guilty and starting to prove that Bigger is crazy, which is not a matter of law, but Max denied all the claims made. I agree with Max because Bigger had reasons to kill Mary and Bessie. He didn't do it intentionally but rather by accident and I think he shouldn't be punished so much for that.
