    Today, drunk driving has become America's deadliest crime. There were more than 11,000 alcohol-related deaths in 2008. Unfortunately, these deaths could have been avoided if we had tougher laws against this problem. Drivers are well aware of the laws and consequences against drunk driving, especially after destroying families because of their reckless decision. The entire lives of the victims' families are ruined because of the sudden death of their loved one, and they will never be able to return to a normal life, while the offenders, after a few days in prison, return to a normal life. Due to the fragility of our criminal justice system, everyday road users share the road with repeat offenders who are very reluctant to change their behavior despite previous sanctions, treatment or education. In my opinion, those who cause the death of another person while driving drunk should receive a mandatory prison sentence of twenty-five years without the possibility of parole. In the United States, there are many anti-drunk driving organizations with a common goal; prevent alcohol-related road incidents. These organizations initiate outreach activities in communities, educating the public about the dangers of drunk driving and retaliation for crimes. Additionally, advertising campaigns in newspapers, magazines and on television send strong messages to road users not to drink and drive, as it is a crime. Most billboards feature statistics and photos of fatal accidents caused by drunk drivers. Schools ensure that all students are well aware of the danger of drunk driving and the laws that prohibit it. They increase visits to hospitals and visits to victims' families with ...... middle of paper ...... are laws and consequences of their reckless decision that lead to the death of road users innocent. The entire lives of the victims' family members are destroyed because of the sudden death of their loved ones, without them being able to return to their normal life of happiness. On the other hand, most offenders return to their normal lives after a few weeks in prison. Hardcore drunk drivers who drive with a high blood alcohol concentration and are repeat offenders are very reluctant to change their behavior despite previous sanctions, treatment or education and pose a great threat to the public. Families who have lost their loved ones at the hands of drunk drivers have every reason to demand tough drunk driving laws that will save innocent lives in the future.
